Steven F. Brown, director of SKF’s North American Technical Center and its Drive-by-Wire business unit, will present an overview at the October IMPA meeting on how drive by wire will affect the automotive world.
“Changing the Landscape: Drive-by-Wire Technology” will be Brown’s presentation which follows the reception and lunch. Activities begin at noon, October 21, at the Women’s Republican Club, 3 W. 51st Street, New York.

Brown is responsible for the development and administration of SKF’s drive-by-wire businesses in the North American market where he focuses on market intelligence, business development, and project follow-up. SKF’s drive-by-wire technology involves smart actuation systems for service brakes, steering, clutches, gearshifts, and parking brakes.
Brown also is responsible for managing the activities of the technical staff at the SKF North American Technical Center. He supervises product testing and the metallurgical, chemistry, and metrological laboratories.
Brown has held numerous positions throughout his career at SKF. He has served as director of heavy truck bearing sales for North America, director of application engineering and manager of product design and quality at SKF’s hub unit facility in Glasgow, Ky. Brown started his career at SKF in 1986 as an application engineer in the heavy truck segment. Prior to joining SKF, he was an application engineer for the Bearing Group of Federal-Mogul Corporation.
Brown received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Detroit in 1991. He also received a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering from Michigan State University in 1983. He has been a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) since 1984.
