NEW YORK, NY–The International Motor Press Association said today that it is granting its 2019 Ken Purdy Award for Excellence in Automotive Journalism to David Hobbs for his memoir: “Hobbo.”
Englishman David Hobbs–’Hobbo’ to his friends and fans–has led a remarkable life in racing. In his 31-year driving career, he raced in almost every imaginable category: endurance sports racers, touring cars, Formula 1, Formula 5000, Indycars, IMSA, Trans-Am, Can-Am and even NASCAR.
On top of that achievement, he has been a television commentator in America for nearly 40 years, bringing plenty of wit and wisdom to the screen as part of NBC’s Formula 1 team.
“Hobbo” has put down all his experiences in this very readable, and enjoyable memoir to be enjoyed by fans on both sides of the Atlantic.
“The award is named for auto writing legend Ken Purdy, and we always look for a work that embodies the kind of work Purdy himself would have enjoyed reading,” said David Kiley, IMPA Board member and head of the selection committee.
