Driving Events

IMPA offered members two premier live driving events: Test Day and Spring Brake.

Test Day, an annual fall one- or two-day program for members to drive the latest offerings of the auto/truck/motorcycle manufacturers, has been our most popular and coveted live event.   It brings together automotive journalists with manufacturer and aftermarket executives to discuss and evaluate an array of cutting-edge products and technologies.  It is also a key benefit of IMPA membership and is made possible through the generosity of the manufacturers and related corporate sponsors. Visit our Facebook page to see photos of our most recent past live driving events.

IMPA hosts a similar driving event in the spring, known as “Spring Brake.”

IMPA’s next Spring Brake event will take place Tuesday/Wednesday, May 13/14, 2025 at Camelback Resort, Tannersville, PA. Tickets for the event included a an evening cocktail reception the night before, continental-style breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack, along with driving on and off-road (for members and media guests) and interactivity with members of the automotive-communications community.

For each of the events, a typical day goes like this:

Driving Member Participants

Members gather at in a designated parking lot from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to check in, enjoy a light breakfast and lunch courtesy of our manufacturer sponsors, and most of all, drive as many as 80+ current and upcoming vehicles through specially designed routes in and around the park.  This is our signature media road test event for automotive journalists to enjoy the beautiful outdoors as they evaluate the very latest offerings from the world’s top manufacturers.

This has been a rain or shine event and driving is permitted for members only. At our most recent Test Day, we also welcomed members of the New England Motor Press Association (NEMPA) and the Washington Automotive Press Association (WAPA). Members who wish to stay overnight in the area arrange for their own accommodations.

Manufacturer Participants/Sponsors

As always, we’ve welcomed manufacturers to bring as many of their newest vehicles as possible and to take advantage of sponsorship opportunities visible to well over 100 journalist attendees.  We typically structure a standard participation fee for all OEMs, as well as multiple additional sponsorship opportunities.  Sponsors are given visibility through signage, event branding, display vehicles and, of course, the opportunities for journalist members to evaluate the vehicles themselves during the day(s) and mention those vehicles in their upcoming work.  (We’ve also welcomed vehicles designed for persons with disabilities or other specialty products.)

For additional information on future sponsorship opportunities and other details involving OEM participation, please contact Paul Licata at pauljosephlicata@gmail.com, or Mike Geylin at info@impa.org.
